final harvest

final harvest of the season. in the end it was a not so great year in the garden. no peaches, very few strawberries or blueberries due to some animal or another. herbs were great though as were carrots.

and here is the small yield of potatoes. hoping for better next year. time for some massive dirt overturning and composting efforts and maybe reestablishing the edges of all the beds

harvest day

first semi-successful carrot harvest. they are a bit on the small side but quite sweet (especially the blood red ones). these are destined to be pickled and saved for a few months for the colder nights.

also on the list today is making pear butter with the pears from my tree which are now ripe and ready and maybe some peach jam with champagne if i can fit it in the day.

later this week, dig up the potatoes.

chickpeas

what do chickpeas look like in the wild after just being harvested?

like this actually.

each pod has two chickpeas in it and each plant only produces a few pods
so it is going to be a very small bowl of hummus this year
