concertina fold book

a friend in chicago and i hit upon a trade book idea. we would each provide the other with a favorite text then each make 2 copies of a book using that text. i was sent a poem by the sufi poet rumi

this book is constructed with watercolor paper to which a paint wash was added then run through my large format hp printer to print the undulating text. covers are made out of grain matched cocobolo blocks with brass fittings and leather cordage for closure ties and hand printed with a lino block image. finished with wax.

As beautiful as these photos are nothing can compare with actually holding this beautiful object. The smoothness of the wood playing against the texture of the paper ... it sings!
