long live bookstores

Why yes those would be my books on display at an actual living breathing independent bookstore near Pittsburgh. The Penguin Bookshop in Sewickley to be precise.

If you are in Sewickley, or near Sewickley, or passing through Sewickley or thinking 'hey today is a nice sunny day for a drive ... where should we go ... oh I read on a blog about this great bookstore in Sewickley why don't we go there', go in and buy something from the bookseller peoples there. And yes I do follow my own advice. I've already spent half the money I made in sales to them by buying new books there.

Oh and maybe mention I sent you. Then perhaps they will buy more of my books and I can buy more of theirs and so on and so forth.

broadsides

with my new large format printer i am finally able to do some broadside editions of my poetry and translating work and add in some hand-printed elements (the above photo shows the print run drying). this first broadside is a translation of a robert desnos poem that appears in my book mythmaking and i will be listing them for sale soon over on the press web site. a modest first design, but i am hoping to do more complex work as i get better at printmaking.

poster design

the last stage of publishing one of my books of translation is designing a poster. these are given to special people who meant something during the book's creation.

this seems to be the sketch most people like of those i had posted earlier.

kitchen and library

i thought i would share with everyone some composite photos of my kitchen and library in their current states. i completely renovated the kitchen last year and as always the library is a work in progress, mostly trying to find places to put more books than i have shelves for.

new book from the air and nothingness press - 'voyage in burgundy'

in the summer of 1930, robert desnos, his future wife youki and her then husband, the japanese painter tsuguharu foujita, along with his cousin, set out on a walking tour of the burgundy region of france.

this book - 'Voyage in Burgundy", is the latest from my publishing efforts - the air and nothingness press and is a memoir of that time. editing has finally been finished and the book will go into production soon.

above is the set of postcards that will be added in an envelope in the back of the copies of the book and will functions as the illustrations.

i've been looking forward to having this book done because it is the first prose piece of his that i have translated. the original text was unpublished and contains false starts, spelling errors of names and some general early draft mayhem. my translating partner, oonagh taeger, and i have added a series of annotated notes to the text to correct some of these issues and provide some context for the people and places mentioned. i am looking to have this book published by the fall. please let me know if you are interested in buying a copy when it comes out.
