woodworking season 2


continuing with the bench, today i milled down more of the horse chestnut to make the 6 legs i'll need. this photo was taken before they were tapered and i am quite enamoured by the grain pattern. the sets of legs will be bookmatched. i've tapered them all so the lighter ends are towards the floor. i think it will be visually exciting.

so far i really like working with horse chestnut.

Very nice. At first I thought the colors were caused by some overhanging tree; it took me a moment to realize that I was looking at the wood's natural coloring.

the coloring is due to spalting, a mushroom like fungus that stains the wood
